Oil on linen, 18x24This painting is a MASTER STUDY COPY after Van Gogh’s Girl in White. Creating this master copy was a way of sitting with Van Gogh-with his brushwork, palette, and sense of fragility. For me, it became less about replication and more about listening, slowing down, and letting the act of copying teach me something new.
I was drawn to how she's both lovely and uneasy-dressed for dignity, yet carrying the weight of being seen and used. In painting her, I began thinking about what it means to be valued for your surface versus your soul. Van Gogh is a MASTER, like all great artists, he leaves me desperately wanting to know her story. Wanting to tell her she holds inherent value far beyond what she provides to others.
