Art that Holds Story
Thanks for visiting my online studio. I believe art and beauty have inherent value. I paint layered still lifes and landscapes in oil, often using fruit, branches, and bold contour lines to explore memory, beauty, and repair.
I’m drawn to the idea that a painting can hold memory and present experience at the same time. Again and again, my work returns to the places where light meets fracture — and to the hope that what is broken is not wasted.
I want my paintings to slow the eye and invite a deeper kind of seeing. For me, creating art is one of the bravest things I do.
— Amanda
I was born and raised in the South. While studying at the University of Tennessee, an invitation to an art class quietly altered the direction of my life. I am hearing and vision impaired, and painting has become my disciplined way of seeing — a sustained attention to light, form, and color. It slows me down. It teaches me to notice.
I work in oil in a modern cloisonnist language defined by bold hand-drawn contour lines and layered fields of color. My process often begins with one image and builds over time, allowing earlier forms to remain beneath the surface — a quiet record of what came before. I’m drawn to that layering; it feels true to how life forms within us.
Fruit recurs throughout my work as a visual framework for growth, abundance, fragility, and time. I’m deeply interested in the tension between structure and overflow — how something can feel both contained and expansive at once.
I paint both en plein air and in the studio, from the Smoky Mountains to places abroad, translating place through my distinct way of seeing. I hope the work invites you to slow down and notice what is already present.
